US, China end trade talks, will meet again in September
According to Xinhua, the two countries had “candid and efficient” talks and held “deep” exchanges over “major issues of mutual interest.” A matter that both sides discussed was China increasing its agricultural purchases from the US as well as the latter creating favorable conditions for the purchases to be carried out. They concluded the talks by reportedly agreeing to meet again in September for the next round of discussions.

China has begun purchasing more agriculture products from the United States, stated spokesman fro the Ministry of Commerce in Beijing, Gao Feng.

The White House yesterday said that representatives of Beijing in the trade talks “confirmed their commitment to increase purchases” of agricultural products from the US.

Beijing also confirmed that working-level talks with the US will continue in August before they are resumed on a higher level in September.

Chinese enterprises purchase U.S. agricultural products: MOC
Some Chinese firms, including both state-owned and private companies, have inquired with U.S. suppliers about the new purchases of U.S. farm produce including soybeans, cotton, pork and sorghum since July 19, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Thursday.
Currently, a batch of deals have been made in line with market conditions, MOC spokesperson Gao Feng said at a news conference.
The Chinese enterprises involved have applied for the lifting of additional tariffs on some of the U.S. farm produce, and the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council will handle their applications according to stipulated procedures.
