The Croatian joint venture, comprised of the companies Končar and Gredelj, has a good chance to sell 25 trams to Sophia worth 56 Million Euros.

Since the socialist opposition accused the Mayor of fixing the tender, none of the producers wanted to apply. According to the law, in the case that the tender fails, the bidders are allowed to offer their trams through direct negotiations. The negotiations will take place during the next month, says Marijan Wolf, the economic advisor of the Croatian Embassy in Sophia. Although the leaders of Gredelj and Končar pointed out that the Bulgarians incorporated protectionist conditions by allowing only applications from bidders with trams already present in one of the EU countries, Mr. Wolf commented that this is not the case.
