While the negotiations of the Zagreb Stock Exchange (ZSE) haven’t officially started and their stockholders are divided into two groups with varying opinions as to who should be the new owner.
Mr. Ante Samodol, President of the Croatian Agency for Supervision of Financial Services (HANFA), assessed in favor of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Poslovni Dnevnik has been informed from confidential sources that Mr. Marijan Palić, Member of the Board of Auctor and the representative of the Union of Dissatisfied Stockholders of the ZSE, since 54% of membership has given their power-of-attorney support to him, is presently in Vienna negotiating with the representatives of the Vienna Stock Exchange. He will inform Mr. Ante Samodol on the status of the negotiations on Monday. Stockholders associated with the banking sector are more in favor of deferring sale of the Zagreb exchange and have not been officially informed of the intentions of the stockholder’s union. Samodol strongly criticized the ZSE because of negligence in their work. He feels the ZSE will have serious structural problems and internal divisions, since the brokerage companies are also the owners of the stock exchange. The part of the solution is to select a new Supervisory Board with half of them being independent members that will make decisions in the public interest.
