Unlike the banking sector that is estimated to have surmounted the worst of the crisis, the brokerage companies have nothing to hope for at this moment.

In Q1, they experienced 5,6 million kunas of losses. If they continue down this path, until the end of the year, they might reach 20 million kunas of losses. Their fee and commission income went from 250.8 million kunas in 2007 to 133.5 million kunas in 2008. Their securities trading profit in the “golden” 2007 amounted to 126.3 million kunas developed into a loss of 8,8 million kunas in 2008 – a loss in value of 107%. The total assets of these brokerage companies decreased by 16% to 2.2 billion kunas. The capital value is almost 30% lower with a total of 1.5 billion kunas.
