The research from the Austrian online research agency, Mind Take, showed that most Croatians are pessimistic about their financial future, with more than 51 % thinking that the worst period is yet to come and should get ready for hard times. The survey was done on a representative group of 207 respondents.

According to the changes in their attitude toward their personal finances, only 10% of the respondents said they are still not concerned about money, while 30% worry somewhat, 34% quite a lot and 26% significantly. These concerns effect everyday behavior and 26% of them responded that in the last 6-9 months they significantly reduced their home budgets and purchase only the minimum needed, 15.8% are more careful about their spending and search for special offers and discounts or shop in outlet stores, while 56% are more careful but without any special changes in their purchasing habits and they try to compare prices or shop discounted merchandise. Food and clothing are the biggest expenditures, followed by entertainment, while 47% of them do not spend on wellness, fitness and beauty centers and 41% of them do not spend on travel and holidays. The research disclosed that 81% of the respondents buy their food for home preparations, while only 2% eat out and most of these in expensive restaurants. The trend is similar when it comes to spending on travel and holidays: respondents mostly choose weekend trips, holidays in Croatia, visits to the family, eliminating hotel expenditures. Regarding evening entertainment, it mostly comes down to visiting cafes, bars and movie theatres.
