According to Tuesday’s announcement by Minister of Tourism, Damir Bajs, in the first five months of the year, Croatia had over 1.8 million arrivals, which is a 9% decrease than in the same period of last year and 8% less overnight stays (11% less Croatian and 8% less international guests).

Nevertheless, he pointed out that Croatia is doing better than its competitors. During the press conference of the Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ), where they were promoting the new campaign, “Become the Ambassador of Croatian Tourism”, the Minister commented, “we predicted a drop in arrivals and it is within our projections, even though we will have comparative data at the beginning of July, since the spring religious holidays fall each year on different dates. We have accomplished our goal to be better than the competition and, since the data refers to only 10% of the tourist season, the Croatian tourism can still accomplish good results.” This HTZ project is worth 2.3 million kuna and is entirely internet-based. It was developed by McCann Erickson and, presently, is the biggest internet campaign in Croatia. Besides being the cheapest advertising medium, the message reaches the right people and spreads more efficiently and quickly. It is known that 70% of tourists search for information on the internet.
