Five years since it designed its first laptop, HG Spot is withdrawing from this market segment.

According to the President of the Management Board, Mrs. Alma Curl, in spite of being the segment with the strongest growth in Croatia, laptop production has become less profitable than producing the desktop computers. Instead of focusing on laptops, they are focusing on desktop computers under a brand name HG PC. The sale of computers by domestic producers started to stagnate last year. According to the spokesman of the ICT market research company, IDC Adriatics, Mr. Ivan Juras, Croatian producers sold 97,000 computers in 2008, which is 13,000 less than the previous year. “Because of their low production levels per series, the domestic computer producers cannot compete with global brands that are continuously lowering their product’s prices. Their margins are becoming way too small to justify the production. On the other hand, the domestic producers can be more flexible with the configuration of the computers,” explains Juras. According to the IDC data, the five most successful domestic computer companies are M SAN, HG Spot, Vemil, Microline and Končar INEM.
